html tables ; horizontal overflow, sticky headers..
`div.table-wrapper { overflow-x: auto; }`
`table { position: relative; border-collapse: separate; }`
`td, th { position: sticky; top: 0px; }`

default tables commonly overflow the x-axis, and do not have sticky headers;
the above css addresses each issue individually;
but together, the overflow fix breaks the sticky fix..

b) yes, by adding a fixed height `max-height:100vh;` to the overflow container
c) ...

`sticky` is relative to the *nearest scrolling ancestor*..
`overflow-x:auto;` makes the table-wrapper a scrolling ancestor;
this can be confirmed by either giving a fixed height or by removing the `overflow-x`.


`position:sticky; top:0px;` interacts with the *nearest scrolling ancestor*.
`overflow-x:auto;` becomes that *nearest scrolling ancestor*, instead of the viewport.
note that while `overflow-x` does apply specifically to the x-axis,
`sticky` applies to both x-axis *and* y-axis;
so it matches the *nearest scrolling ancestor*, horizontal *or* vertical.
scrolling containers do not differentiate between horizontal and vertical.
..
so solution would be to add horizontal-only and vertical-only `sticky` positions ..
and to split the scroll "boxing" logic between horizontal and vertical overflow.
